I have enjoyed reading all the recent posts about heirloom vegetables -- seems interest continues to "grow"!
For those who don't already know, there is a new magazine devoted strictly to heirlooms (vegetables, flowers, seedsaving and even some livestock). It is called "The Heirloom Gardener" and it is publised 4 times per year. About 48 pages per issue and full color. Most articles fairly in-depth. If you get through a typical issue of OG in 30 minutes, this mag will take you at least an hour!
It is published by Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. If you want more info check their website: www.rareseeds.com
This mag is a great supplement to your OG subscription!

sadly, my last issue of OG only had about 35 pages of info. It's a 15 minute read for me and I HATE the cooking stuff. I really miss the old OG and MM. I gotta let my subscription expire, it's just not worth the money...
I just subscribed on line after reading several of the past articles on the web-site. Looking forward to my first subscription... The seed cataloge looks wonderful as well... I am already thinking about my spring planting!!!
Baker Creek Seed Co (same young man as does the mag) holds a spring planting festival and also a fall harvest festival. Hubs and I went down this past spring and it was pretty neat. Really crowded in the seed store tho - think I'll order my seeds ahead next year. Got some pretty nice plants; and there was this small animal swap meet in nearby Mountain Grove that I wouldn't mind attending again too.
I first read about Jere Gettle in an issue of Countryside magazine last summer. They did an extensive interview with him and it was very interesting. The article contained several pictures from the spring planting festival and it looked like a lot of fun. I hope to someday find a way to make it down there for one of those.
Their seed catalog looks amazing and he has been traveling the world picking up seeds from Thailand and other countries to add to their offering.
