Today was "duck day" here. There were 8 hooded mergansers in my stream by a little patch of open water. Then 2 mallards came. And then...I saw a big red fox trotting up the stream on the ice with a big duck in his mouth! So it was duck day for him too. Then just at dusk the first woodcock was out on the lawn poking the ground for worms. And lastly, I saw a whole flock of robins on the lawn next door. So I guess spring is really coming to Maine at last! P.S. My compost bins are mostly thawed out too, gave them a good stir.
Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow... David Mallett, "Garden Song"
