Not sure if this has been discussed before, forgive me if it has. I've been using a new cat litter called Swheatscoop. It is pure wheat. It clumps great from the urine and you can scoop and flush the feces easily. My question is...can the urine clumps be added to my compost pile. I know human urine has been discussed, AND I know not to add the feces but what about the urine? If you have an indoor cat, I highly reccommend this litter. It may seem more expensive at first but is actually less because you don't have to dump the whole litter box as often, there is virtually NO odor AND it's organic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Normally I would tell you not to even think about composting any waste products from cats. Due to the classic fear of risking disease or health hazards to pregnant women, etc. However, recently I have discovered that it is perfectly fine to compost any type of urine, meat scraps, or any biodegradeable plant based litter, ONLY IF, you can guarantee that the pile will get hotter than 140 degrees F for several days. This is the classic sterilization temperature.

Always mix high nitrogen/ammonia materials with at least 2-3 times more high carbon materials like untreated sawdust, leaves, straw, or hay. This also helps guarantee healthy humus, absorbs stinky odors, and help neutralize milds toxins and pathogens.

You could add a tea made from some sugary products like molasses, syrups, or flat soft drinks as a biostimulant to increase internal heating of the pile, and to increase aerobic microbial activity for faster decomposition.
