Hi All, I need to use up several pounds of Jalapenos which are past their prime. I've already harvested the viable seeds. Does anyone have a recipe for hot pepper spray? Need to keep the 4 legged critters out of my yard! thanks, passion
I don't actually have a 'recipe'--but have had luck in the past just blending the heck out of two or three jalapenos, then maybe adding some garlic, cayenne, black pepper. you blend it really good, then strain it through first a big strainer (like a veggie one) then eventually through coffee filters. (if you don't strain it really well it'll clog up your sprayer.) you do have to dilute it way down as well. you could always freeze the jalapenos until you get around to using them all. they just get hotter when frozen!
sorry I don't have measurements for you to use--I cook the same way (except for bread and stuff that has to be precise.)
test whatever mixture you use first before you spray everything. I've not had any problems but better safe than sorry!
this spray works pretty well to deter most bugs--even grasshoppers unless there are just too many.
B-) throw a handful of chillies into a blender with enough water to turn them into a puree`. Dissolve 10g.of soap flakes in hot water, and when cooled, add to the chilli puree`. When sprayed undiluted it will repel ants, aphids, caterpillars and mites. Good luck Maryanne B-)
Take two peppers and blend them till fine with one cup of corn or vegetable oil. Because of the oil, this sticks real well to plants and can survive a light watering. Put this on the tips of corn, plant stems and over fruit to discourage pests.
