99 bags of leaves in the yard
99 bags of leaves
You take one down and spread it around
98 bags left of leaves in the yard.

98 bags of leaves in the yard
98 gigantic bags
you take 5 or 6 to give to the chicks
there's just 92 bags left of leaves in the yard.

92 bags of leaves in the yard
92 back breaking bags
you dump out 10 for the 3 duck hens
just 82 bags left to deal with my friends.

82 bags sitting there in the yard
waiting to spread all around
that's all for today, they aren't going away
got 82 bags left to deal with my friends.

You could get more leaves done if you wouldnt be sitting in front of a computer making up silly little songs!!!HaHa It was cute though! It was soooo nice out today 57* I started stringing up the wonderful christmas tree lights on the 2-8ft spruces I have in my front yard.Rather do it when it is warm out, then I all I have to do is plug them in around dec.10ish.Mulchy do you keep your ducks as just pets or do you do something with them later on???Willow

Love your rhymes, Mulchy! I'm too lazy to deal with bags so I just piled all my leaves inside my fenced vegetable garden--about 15 x 20 feet. Will I have mulch by spring or am I just building the worlds largest compost pile?

Hi Willow, I HAD to sit somewhere and rest my back after moving all those bags via wheelbarrow to the back yard...(got more bags to pick up from around town today, and one person is bringing another truckload of bags today too).

As for the ducks, they are pets. The chickens too (6 little game bantams). If I could kill and dress them I would, but it is not possible for me to do that then eat them... So the ducks serve as my "predator alarms" they quack like crazy in the middle of the night if anything bothers them (they are in a predator proof enclosure however).

Now about those christmas lights...I hear about stringing them while you're warm enough to do so...and thank goodness you don't turn them on NOW!!! In my town, one store has the most beautiful display with christmas lights...and they turned it on NOV. 1st!!!

Kaytee, I think my pile would be larger. I piled most of my bags out back into an area 6' x 20' and they are 5 feet high! And that is only about 100 bags...got more to collect (my yard is extremely low in organic material). The driest leaves I'm going to try shredding with the lawn mower. Using the big mulcher seems like too much noise and work. Most however, I probably won't do much with as my back does not like this job at all!

My chickens love the leaves...well the creatures they find to eat amidst the leaves. They do a pretty good job of shredding the leaves so I'll probably give them 2 bags every week...that should use up at least 50 bags by summer...if only I could set the chickens free in the yard they'd shred ALL the leaves, but the hawks would pick them off too easily.

Leaves, I've been waiting all year to collect them so I can have a major organic materials boost for this sandy/rocky patch of land I have.

Mulchy we have chickens too >We have a mix of some bantams, rhode island reds some leg horns and some I dont know whats? right now we have 25 hens and 1 rooster I let mine free range I havent had anything get at them for a long time now .We had an incident with a neighbor dog though, I took one of my half dead favorite chickens(her name was missy) to their house at dinner time to show them what their dog did and said if it happened I again I would blow the dog away and the dog has'nt been over since! Then we had a weasel problem them things are downright nasty !dont know what happen to it though it took care of 5 chickens and never came back??I always wanted to get some ducks but my husband dont want too! Dont know how they would handle the winter in a coop with chickens?we raise our chicken for the eggs mostly but when they get to old and dont lay it is time for them to go.We have a wildlife rehabber across the road from us and she takes their poor little bodies and uses them for a good purpose. So that I dont feel totally guilty, but they had a better life at my house than they ever would at some egg farm!

i can't ahve bags sitting around like that. the tree police will send me to the city atty for "debris" throughout hte yard. that's one of my crimes.
i will say i'm an organic gardener.
they will say i can get compost from the city for free & get it delievered.
i will say i don't know if (what's that chem i posted the alert on that stays even thru composting?) is in it.
they will say it was outlawed.
i will say that doesn't mean that city isn't still using it.

can you tell i've been traumatized? do you think i can sue them?

No trees were killed or animals harmed in the sending of this message; however a great many electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Hi Willow, just how cold do your winters get? My ducks I only shut in at night when it's going to be 25 degrees or lower. I covered their enclosure on part so they have shade and a dry spot, but they really, dislike being shut up at night. And they'd really hate being with my chickens, they are afraid of the chickens! That might be because the previous rooster we had kept attacking the ducks, especially the muscovey. Her red gnarly face must have made him think she was a huge rooster and he'd jump on her big time.Even with his spurs trimmed, he really clawed her hard. Once he started attacking me I had to kill him. First and only chicken I've done in so far, but he had it coming.

As for letting the little bantams out, there are a few hawks that regulary visit and sit watching them from a tree just above the pen...those bantams are tiny and those hawks look very intent...so for now, they stay in the enclosure.

Willow- I've had dukcks and chickens in the same coop during a real severe winter when I had no other options. They get along ok. This biggest problem is that ducks are a waterfowl and they make a BIG mess of the waterpans or waterers.

Allmuxedup--Put up some trellis, grow some vines, call it a gazebo or an arbor and stack leaves and things inside of it to your hearts content? Best of luck with the tree police! We're rooting for you.

Suing for harrassment is posible and you may have some posiblility of winning but most likely it would be more expense and stress than it would be worth. The thing to do would be to send complaints to their supervisors and your parks department and those elected officials who rule their little roosts. Have documentation for everything and include your personal and financial distress. This can be sone by E-mail these days in addition to snail mail. Make as big a pest of yourself as they have and their bosses will want it over. You can also complain to the press, but you must have dated documentation. They don't want bad publicity. Complain to the mayor's office too while you're at it. Good luck.
