Hi everyone I've been on the USA side of lake Ontario for almost 4 years now. I'm in Oswego county ten miles towards Syracuse from Oswego.According to zone charts I'm in zone 5 but according to OG zone chart I'm in zone 6.

The new and revised but not yet completed USDA zone chart shows me in zone 6 as well.Can I get some feed back from anyone who is in this region what you think about the zone I'm in. Does anyone know anything about how the average minimum temperature is calculated? Anyway hope some one can help

Hello fellow New Yorker! To tell you the truth I'm not quite sure what zone I'm in either (notice my signature). Since the whole zone mapping is based on averages I'd say it's not incredibly accurate so just use it as a guide. Bring other things into the equation too like does your property get a lot of sun, are their windbreaks, are you at the bottom of a hill (where frost is more likely to settle). For any plants that are advertised as being hardy only to zone 6 I either don't buy them or give them extra care.
