Lets try another one.

Favorite carrot would have to be Mokum.

They make super baby carrots and still taste great at full size. Topped, washed and kept sealed in a gallon ziplock bag with a bit of water they keep in the fridge for months. I harvested most of them in late Sept. and they're still fresh and crisp today.

I tried some "yellowstone" last year and won't bother again. Don't know how they tasted cooked but they were lousy raw, which is the way I prefer to eat carrots.

I had to check through my garden notes because I have tried so many different carrots over the years.
Seems I have planted 'Bolero' four years in a row with great success. Most resistant to alternaria blight. I harvest carrots 6 and 7 inches long, good keeping quality, good flavor.
I'll read up on 'Mokum',sounds worth a try if blight resistant.

Don't think I've found a favorite yet. I grow yellowstone and nutri red for color (they are the best cooked carrots), and purple dragon and kuttiger, when I can find them, but I like really sweet juicy orange carrots for eating. My eldest daughter will eat three or four carrots at a time, and we go through them really fast. I try to get a good overwintering carrot as well as a couple of juicing or nantes types. One of my kids favorite things is when I shred a bunch of carrots, including the white and yellow and red and purple ones for a colorful carrots salad

For open pollinated carrots I like the purple Dragon that I get from Irish Eyes(Irish-Eyes.com). For hybrid carrots they also have an orange one called Coral II, it is a relative of Kuruda. DON'T try their yellow carrot Lubiana though, it tasted so bad I thought I was eating a pine root.

Haven't grown carrots for a couple years, but the one I had the most success with was Goldpak. Nothing really spectacular about it, just consistently reliable. Next year if I have the space, I would like to try some red carrots, just for fun.

Favorite carrot? Hmmm... this time of year I would say it's a toss up between the Minicors and the Little Fingers. They both do really well in the greenhouse all winter and early spring. So small, I have to plant a lot of 'em. For summertime I like the old Touchon, and the rich flavor of the Danvers Half Long. But I have to beat the grasshoppers and the cats off of the carrots daily to get any kind of a harvest, so any variety that gets past them is acceptable to me.

Brennewoman: Try adding orange juice and raisins to the shredded carrots and let them sit in the fridge a little while. This is one of our favorite summer desserts, next to sourcream, bananas, and strawberries with vanilla sugar.
