We're in the low 90s here (just waiting for the next freeze, however), but you take what you can get and plant when you can. I got the carrots, beets, onions, potatoes, tomatoes (inside Wall-O-Waters), half my melons (also in Wall-O-Waters), and about 7 dozen perennials from High Country Gardens, and Bluestone in the ground.
Now if we could just get some rain. Frowner

So, jenniferch, i shouldn't complain how hot it was up here in Seattle this wkend, eh? Big Grin

It was 90+ here (I'm meeellllting) this wkend, so the only thing that got done was a couple of planted rows of yukons and german butterball taters and a row of corn. Then my Pop and i took advantage of Lowe's generous air conditioning and found all the materials to stake our tomatoes. Thanks to all of you who so generously share your ideas for staking! Smiler

We had a really hot day here yesterday. It's finally warm enough for the iris and lilacs to start doing their thing.

Like Weed though, I'm just waiting for the next frost. My chokecherry bush is just about to bloom, so expect a hard frost the minute that starts to bloom.

I planted green beans a couple days ago and after I got them all in the ground I read the seed packet and saw that the seed is 5 yrs. old. Guess w'ell see how well they germinate.

Haven't put any cucumbers or squash in yet. I'd had good intentions of doing that today, but the wind is blowing so hard and I don't want to go out in it to work.

well...MOST of my snow is gone...I am thinking maybe Wednesday I will plant my peas, maybe direct seed other stuff too (lettuce and carrots and potatoes, etc)

NO leaves on bushes and trees. Some of the perennials have a few baby leaves poking up.

The spring birds starting arriving more in force last week.

Noticed that the voles tried to eat up my BLUEBERRY BUSHES too! *sob sob* I don't think they are dead, but am guessing no berries this year. Didn't realize I had to cage those up. (I just think this last winter was a super super bad vole year).

Grass hasn't started to green up yet...we are right now at the mud stage. Big Grin

I think it is warm enough in the house to start my "grow corn in the house experiment". I already started my "grow melons in the house" experiment.

Alaskan,

You do make me feel less inclined to whine about short seasons up here. Reached 85 today and had to mow the lawn/dandelion patch, as the flowers were starting to seed.

Sorry about the voles, hoping now that I no longer have any outdoor cats I don't get overtaken by them.

Your irises are lovely. I did some pulling and cussing on the quack grass, still to wet to risk the round up. It's up in the middle of the base of one of my hybrid teas, dam stuff!
But the roses are doing ok, so we'll get there eventually. It's the rose bush on the left and being a HT it's a touchie little bugger. But it was a Mother's Day gift many years ago, so I just mutter a lot and work with it. The blooms are wonderfully scented, it's a Sheer Bliss and it smells like it's name.

Only two annual pots to go. All the beds are full of perrenials, all the pots full of annuals (except those two), all the vegetables planted, except the live plants I'm waiting for, and the lawn (ha ha) is mowed and the grass around the beds mowed down, so the flower beds stand out.

Doccat - I swear by metal edging to keep grass and weeds down in my flower beds. Once you get the stuff out, try to find some 4" edging and bury all but the top bit.
