I've been landscaping for others now for about 10 years. Everyone Ive worked for has done it the traditional way. I'm just starting to get out on my own now. I'm looking for a publication or some information on starting my own organic landscape service. I'm open to plain old advice too. I'm really interested in anyone out there with experience. Thanks for any help.
The best place to start would be to go to a local jr. college and take a corse on starting your own business or a local bookstore is full of information. You need basic info on making your business plan so you can possible get a business loan from a bank to get things started. You'll also find info on marketing your business. Get the basics down then you can look into the specifics of the oragnic landscaping business.
Another thing, once you've decided on a name for you business, you'll need to go downtown to your records department and do a name search for other business in your area that may be suing the same name. If you can't find anyone else, you can then fill out, and get your DBA (doing business as) which is required for you to order things wholesale.
I already have a dba name, and I have been doing installations on my own for about 2 years now. Ive got the ever changing business plan rolling and ive recienved alot of help from the SBA on getting the business off the ground.
What I'm really looking for is information specifically related to doing what Ive done for the last 10 years organically.
I wonder if contacting gardensalive.com would be of help. They have a lot of products, lawn products as well, that I think you would end of using. Perhaps they have some kind of help for organic lawn and garden care businesses.
