I have a Persian lime tree in a large terracotta pot on my deck. It's done well the past few years but this year it looks yellow and not as bushy. Should I fertilize it? If so, what might be the best type of fertilizer to use?

Thanks!

My Persian lime is in the ground, but this is what E.of O.G. has to say: be sure pot is large enough.. needs loose well drained potting mix and benefits from the addition of bone meal..don't let mix dry out. Water when top 1/2" starts to dry out. Water till it runs out the bottom but don't let it stand in water. At least once a month, water with liquid fertilizer such as seaweed extract. Mist leaves frequently. Container grown citrus needs a light yearly pruining. Thin out branches rather than shortening them.. When plant becomes rootbound, repot in fresh potting mix in a larger container. To keep plant small, prune off circling roots and cut back some of the remainder. Shake out as much of the old potting mix as you can, repot and cut back top growth by about 1/4. Hope that helps.

The way you ask the question makes me think you have not fertilized it in a while.

I use alfalfa pellets every month on my potted Meyer lemon. The first time I used it it greened up and the branches grew 6 inches in a month. Now I use a heaping handful of alfalfa per month.
