Has anyone interplanted Nasturtium to control such pests as cucumber beetles and squash bugs. Could squash vine borers be controlled as well? Thank you.
Isaiah, Could you advise how to make Nasturtium's blooms more prolific? We have them popping up everywhere but with very few blooms. And, I was not aware that they could be used to control pests. Where did you read about this so I could research it as well?
Hi, Nasturtiums that have few flowers and a lot of leaves are getting to much fertilizer. They like not so fertile soils. They have survived a lot of abuse and keep on blooming. I have used them for pest control/trap plant for aphids. It's hard to dispose of the plant once infested but it really helps. A wide variety of plants to attract beneficial insects is the key to maintaining a bug friendly garden. Angelwings
Nasturtiums are edible plants for humans, too -- I dry the seeds and grind them in place of pepper in mild dishes. I seem to remember that ants and mealybugs hate a tea of these seeds.
