:_| Last year my eggplants were destroyed by the yard squirrels. Any suggestions on how to protect them from being eaten by those destructive critters? :_|

I heard they were tasty on the BBQ!

Seriously though, most of the time squirrels bite into garden veggies is for water. Provide a easy-access water source for them, and it should do the trick.
If they continue, mix up some pepper spray and let them get a taste of that. Tabasco sauce is particularly effective.
Other than that, get a good dog.

Luv2Garden, I see you are new here-welcome! It's a fun place most of the time and we learn alot from each other.

As for your eggplant, you don't say where you live, zone?

When my eggplant are small, I put a mini-greenhouse over them, which is simply a milk jug with the bottom cut off and about a 3-4" circle cut out of the top. Works great. When they start growing out the top, I remove the jug.

Loamy was right about the moisture, critters get thirsty. You could also strategically place things they like, ears of corn, nuts, in a place away from your garden. Keep them interested in other things.

Easiest solution: Big Freakin' Dog.
