I just bought some untreated pine to build raised beds (Didn't want to use pressure-treated lumber, as these are veg beds!) and I plan to treat them with linseed oil to make them a bit more water-resistant. Does anyone have any ideas for a NONTOXIC substance I could mix with the oil to stain the boards, perhaps a subtle green or red? I don't think paint or a commercial stain is a good idea for lumber surrounding food crops. Anyone have experience here?
