This year I was prepared. I had multiple compost heaps. I expanded the garden. I had all my seed at the appropriate time, except peanuts. Typically, peanuts do not go in the ground until now. No one has them! They sold out early! I have tried four sources. They said they'll reorder. I had planned to expand my peanut production this year and now I think it is not going to happen! This fall will not be the same without boiled peanuts. It's just not the same if you have to buy someone elses. Last year, we harvested just over a hundred pounds. It didn't last long. I had planned to double it this year. My kids will be highly disappointed if I don't find another source soon.

Try asking the store where you ordinarily buy them when they expect more. With so many being sold perhaps they will replace them soon. Our local natural food stoe ran out quickly but is going to have some in possibly today.

That has been done, but it is no security. I deal with four different feed stores in the area. The sources of the seed are stressed. One possibility is the the elimination of the tobacco quotas. The locals have obviously switched to other sources for revenue. It has caused a shortage of seed peanuts. I deal with these feed stores in bulk for feed. I simply got complacent when ordering peanut seed. I did not think the losses would reflect that quickly to another market.

Being from the north I hadn't thought of that. It can be upsetting to see seed that you've come to depend on, not there anymore or enough. A particular kind of corn I like was not in the catlogue as usual this year. Fortunately, another even better seed company had it. I'm going to try and save seed this year. Good luck. I hope your seed comes in soon.

While we are on the peanut subject, do you or anyone else know if you can boil peanuts without salt? All the recipes I have seen call for peanuts boiled in salt water.

Have you tried checking on-line with some of the catalog companies. For a few extra bucks some of them will ship in twenty four hours.
