Haven't been able to find any seed starting mix locally (Southern Oregon) - including Whitney Farms and Dr. Earth - that is labeled "organic." Found one that said it had "organic matter added." Does anyone have any clue as to whether it exists?

Yes it does exist. look for starting mix gthat contains NO wetting agents and you will be okay. or you can make your own which is what most folks do.
www.fertrell.com has some OMRI approved mixes but I don't know if they deal in Oregon. http://www.oeffa.com has a few recipes for making your own as does Eliot Coleman's book, "The New Organic Grower" |

Possibly a matter of semantics. Soil is "organic" so in the absence of chemical additives in the mix, it becomes half a dozen of one....
Ingredients are normally listed: sandy loam, peat, etc. For anyone with a retail product to list with OMRI would be a costly nightmare (ask me...) and in a highly competitive field such as retailed pre packaged soil, it's unlikely to be worth it. John from ecologicals dotcom |

John -- this was kind of how my thoughts were going...but what does this statement mean?
"For anyone with a retail product to list with OMRI ..." Gotta go S-L-O-W for some of us newbies! Thanks! Sue |
