Bakers creek heirlooms is my favorite, also Seeds Of Change. But are you looking only for heirlooms? Or will you take any reliable open pollinated variety. Open Pollinated (OP) are also plants which will produce reliably the same product from seed, so you can save seed from year to year. If you want some of them, territorial seed company, Johnny's seed company, Pinetree garden seed company, Cooks Garden...they are all some very good places to purchase seeds.

Of all the above mentioned seed companies only Baker's Creek is NOT owned by a large corporation. And Baker's Creek gets most of its listings from SSE.

Probably the Best place to get heirloom seeds is the Seed saver Exchange of Decorah Iowa. SSE has about 18000 seed types in its seed bank. the publish a catalog every year that lists about 400 heirlooms. if you join SSE than you get the their listing from the Seed growers network which list about 140000 seed types, many of which are found only through SSE as the seeds are so rare

What about Select seeds? They're pretty good and they have such nice varieties!

Small and locally owned. I just found Becky last year and was happy with the service. Plus it's easy to drive over and pick up my order.

I heartily recommend Baker Creek also.

Their catalog is unbelievably interesting. Their seed prices are extremely reasonable.

Lucy, thanks for the info re: SSE. I live in Iowa and didn't know about them!!! I plan to visit, it's near some of our favorite trout fishing streams and about 100 miles away from home. Getting excited now....Smiler

Thank You, Thank You. I did chack out Seeds of Change. And will request a catelog from the others mentioned.

I want to eventually have all heirloom or open pollinated plants. Think it's safer that way.
Even though I choose seed from the store that isn't hybred you never know what may be on them or what the plant was grown in.

Thank you again so much.

OMIGOD, You live within 100 miles and did not know about them?!??

I would love to visit Heritage farm. They have a big festival/campout every summer. You should try to attend since you are so close.

Lucky!

BTW - I'm on the hunt for heirloom and smaller seed houses that might not be easy to find by using a search engine. I think I've added all of the ones mentioned here. Feel free to drop me a note with info of any other you know of any and would like to share. I'll add them to our links and vegetable seed databases for others to use as well.

They ship to the U.S.

Your tagline doesn't mention if you're East or West or Central, but a lot of the varieties they have are suited to 4 and 5.

I have three seasons: GROW, *SEW*, and SEED CATALOG!

NOT a Keebler.
