mote cotton

I am a new OG gardener & new to the south. Last fall we visited a cotton gin with our homeschool group. They told us that the stuff they pull out of the cotton makes great compost. My concern is that I think they use something on the foliage to kill it before they harvest the cotton. Does anyone know what is routinely used, and if this is something I would or would not want to put in my compost pile? It is free & they have tons of it!!

In recent years the cultivation of cotton has become increasingly depent on massive applications of strong chemical pesticides. Though the cotton seed, which grows well inside the boll, is seldom contaminated, much other gin trash can contain dangerous pesticide residues. As a oganic grower I wouldn't use any of the trash.
