Lumpy Deformed Zucchini

My zukes were great til the last 3 weeks. Then they began to have lumps all over them. They look OK inside, taste OK, what's the deal? Any ideas? Could they have cross-pollinated with the buttercup squash? I've never had lumpy zukes before.

Zuccinis react strangely if the temperatures vary widely so if your temperatures have gone from an average of 65 to an average of 60 in the last week or two like mine have that would explain it. Or it might be a widely varying water supply. Or it might be related to pollination.
