I got Pinetree Seeds about two weeks ago! I'm waiting on Fedco. Anyone get that one yet?

I received Pinetree and Stokes, well 2 Stokes already. Never order from them, but love the detailed growing instructions in that catalog. That's where I first heard the term ,(breaker stage) in tomatos. Had no idea what that meant at the time. I like the stage thingy guide for brassicas too in there. 5 to 8 leaf growth and temp warnings for field growers. Applys to all, but they are concerned with field growers. If you wonder about a brassica crop failure, it gives good clues and thoughts.

Fedco (and Seed Savers) arrived yesterday,

I should be shopping for Christmas gifts, but find myself turning the pages of the seed catalogs.

Go for it! sometimes I think we should change the tradition to just "indulge yourself" - and at the celebration everyone just brag what they bought themselves.

Aside from children - everyone seems to be buying for themselves....

I've lost count of the ones I've thrown away! And I have about a dozen in a pile, and two I have already gotten my orders from (had two things I had no other sources for, and I HAD to get!). I try to wait until after the holidays to start, but I couldn't wait this time.

Johnny's. My stalwart.

But I'm too busy putting the beds to bed to even think about ordering.

Not a one, here. I haven't ordered seeds in a lot of years as I collect mine from what I grow.

Boy- am I in a rut, or what?

Fedco, Dixondale onions and Edmund roses. If I wanted to cheat, there are some catalogs on line, but rather browse through the real paper ones, so I don't miss anything interesting.

Abigail, how'd you fare after hurricane Sandy?

I'm going over to my Aunts in Rockaway Beach this next week and helping to move her out. She had 5' of water.

I have quite a few too. Fedco came about a week ago. I also got one from Bakers Creek Heirloom seeds. (www.rareseeds.com)
Boy, it is beautiful. This catalog grows bigger and better every year. I highly recommend! Prices are not too bad either.

Paul, we are fine. We live up a hill and just went without electricity for several weeks. A lot of people are still hurting. We had a neighborhood family staying with us- their electricity was turned on today. Many people are homeless and others are living without heat. The Red Cross came in late. The National Guard was ready to help, with special engineering squads, but the mayor held them back for weeks. He also nixed FEMA trailers because he didn't think they fit in with the ambiance of NYC. People are getting really p*ssed at the political posturing-photo ops but little real help from the people in charge. I wish the mayor would run again so we could throw him out of office.

Our community is really pulling together. The community patrol stopped looting in its tracks, which freed up the police for other things. Looters were actually coming into the neighborhood pushing shopping carts as they looked for unoccupied homes. The patrols followed them around until they gave up and left. There are holiday toy drives. Food, clothing and household supplies are being brought in and distributed from other generous communities. Still, it will be a long time before everything is back to normal.
